Day 1/            MYEIK (MERGUI) City Tour

After breakfast, start leaving hotel to observe the city’s local product known as “SOFT SHELL CRABS” which are nurtured in farms and located in KYWE GU Village. As seen in its name, soft shell crabs do not have hard shell like regular crabs and are used in delicious meal like “Soft Shell Crab in curry powder”. The soft shell crab farm contains thousands of rabs which are kept in a small plastic container in order for its hard shell to shed in weeks‐ long period.

After observing soft shell crab farm, we will leave to nearby dockyard to see how wooden ships and oats are constructed. One of MYEIK City’s major businesses is fishing. Therefore, a lot of fishing boats are built by using timber and local wood. One can learn the process of shipbuilding, materials used, and duration of its construction.

Leave dockyard to see how fish paste, also known as “NGAPI” is processed KYAUK PHYAR Village. NGAPI is included in many Myanmar dishes and food. It is made out of tiny shrimps by drying it repeatedly in the sun. Then, it turns its color into dark brown which we observe in our dining table.

On our way back into the city, we will have a peek at “CANDLE WORKSHOP” where candles are made and packaged manually (by hand). Unlike developed and modern industrialized cities, watching the process of making candles might definitely entertain individuals who come from western world.

Our last stop for the morning is “CASHEW NUTS FACTORY”. CASHEW NUTS are also one of MYEIK’S local products which required excessive manpower. It has four labor‐intensive steps which initiated from raw cashew nuts to finished products which we can conveniently buy at the supermarket. It surely will attract travelers who want to observe city’s local products.

Lunch and rest stop at Hotel Grand Jade.

Depart hotel to see another city’s local product “EDIBLE BIRD’S NEST”. The nests are made by swiftlets which are small cave‐dwelling birds whose nests are used in making bird’s nest soup. The advantage of consuming bird’s nests is it enhances body’s immune system which can prevent from sickness.  Therefore, its price is also high compared to other local products.

Leave to “PEARL SHOPS” which display different kinds of selections of MYEIK’S local pearls. Pearls used to be one of the most expensive jewels in the past decades but the price of pearl has plummeted due to synthetic pearl processing. One can shop freely without worrying about paying over price.

After observing “PEARL SELECTION”, we will go to monastery called “MIN KYAUNG”, also known as “KING’S TEMPLE” in translation. It contains countless city’s antiques and historical data which one can observe the forming of MYEIK City and how it come in to Burmese Empire. Next to “MIN KYAUNG” is another place known as “WAT TAIT KYAO”. One can see the beauty of MYEIK’S scenery, its coastline, and breathtaking view of MYEIK’S famous reclining Buddha Image on the opposite island “PA HTET ISLAND”.

Back to the hotel for shower and rest.

Leave hotel for MYEIK’S 200 year‐old pagoda known as “THEIN DAW GYI PAGODA”, built in 1732 by MAYOR ARAN MANI, is a landmark for most of the people in MYEIK. People go to the pagoda during important occasions like Buddhist lent, full moon day, where they could all relax and feel the gentle breeze to get rid of all the stress encounter throughout the day.
