The Inle Lake is a beautiful highland lake, situated 900 meters above sea level. The Lake is 22km long and about 11km wide, distinctive with floating vegetation and houses.
There are 18 villages, the inhabitants of which are made up of a number of different ethnic nationalities. Buddhism is the predominant religion in the area and the devoutness of the Lake dwellers is evident in the many monasteries and the famous Phaung Daw Oo pagoda of Inle. The Inle Lake of the Shan States is also a popular destination for tourists drawn there by another features of Inle, its leg-rowers.
